Ernest Meyer

April 25, 1912 — December 29, 2004

Ernest 92, of Washington, died Wednesday December 29, 2004 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following declining health.

Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 31, 2004 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer and Rev. Charles Brock officiating. Burial will be at the Elm Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Thursday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with family receiving friends from 6-8:00 P.M. A memorial in the name of Ernest Meyer has been established.

Ernest Clyde Meyer was born April 25, 1912 in Washington, Iowa the son of John Wesley and Myrtle (Young) Meyer. He graduated from Washington High School and was united in marriage to Lucile Ada Hartman on February 28, 1937 at the Cotter Presbyterian Church.

Earnest farmed for most of his life and also installed carpet and tile. He was a member of the 113th Calvary F troop unit prior to WWII. He was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church in Washington and was a former member of the Optimist Club of Washington, Tri-county Fox Club, several RV Clubs and treasurer of the Cotter School Board. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, crafts and will be fondly remembered for playing his harmonica.


Survivors include his children Patricia Johnson and husband Robert of Washington, Shelby Morrison and husband Lee of North Liberty, IA, Erna Reid and husband Richard of Columbus Junction, IA and Ronald Meyer and wife Rebecca of Solon, IA; sisters Mildred Houseal of Washington and Virginia Aller of Burlington; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucile, January 3, 2004 and two brothers Theodore and Morris.
